About The Kid’s Place and Dr. Wilkerson
At The Kid’s Place, Pediatric Dentistry and Early Orthodontics, Dr. Michael Wilkerson and his team love helping young patients develop optimal dental health and beautiful smiles that will last a life time. Dr. Wilkerson supports the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Dental Association (ADA) concept of a “Dental Home” — the ongoing relationship between the dentist and the patient, inclusive of all aspects of oral health care delivered in a comprehensive, continuously accessible, coordinated, and family-centered way.
To help children grow up with beautiful, cavity-free smiles that instill confidence, promote success, and enrich life!
Our Treatment Philosophy
We focus on finding the root cause when dental issues arise, not just symptoms. In addition to prevention, we treat existing cavities, restoring diseased teeth back to health. At you regular visits, we monitor dental eruption and guide erupting teeth to their normal position, by interceptive orthodontic techniques. We will also look for concerns that affect oral and facial development in a negative way, and redirect the growth back toward normal by addressing and treating the cause.
In addition to pediatric dental care, we offer early orthodontic treatment, assessment of facial growth and facial aesthetics, and evaluation of tongue and oral muscle function, with a focus on airway and proper nasal breathing. Correct nasal breathing along with correct oral muscle function, leads to healthier children, straighter teeth, beautiful smiles, and attractive faces.
Sedation for Maximum Comfort
We offer multiple levels of sedation for our younger patients including nitrous oxide laughing gas, oral sedation, and even general anesthesia when necessary.
A Positive Dental Experience
We pride ourselves on providing positive experiences for our kids. We help parents choose effective procedures and management strategies for their child for all treatments! We’ve created a warm, fun environment in which your child will receive the care he or she needs. We want our patients to leave smiling and happy!
Every one of my team members loves working with kids! In fact, they wouldn’t work here if they didn’t! They are dedicated to providing a great patient experience. They love talking with the kids and explaining things in “kid-friendly terms” so it does not cause anxiety or fear. Our goal is to develop a long-lasting relationship with the children and their parents to educate and create life-long, positive dental habits.
Scheduling for Your Convenience
We strive to schedule appointment times that are best for appropriate ages with consideration of the type of treatment provided. We are currently the only pediatric dental practice in the area open on Fridays. We will see any of our existing patients ASAP, at any time, if there is ever an emergency. Plus, we block time in our schedule to handle new patient emergencies as well. We’re here for you, whenever you need us. We look forward to getting to know you and your family.
Meet the Doctor
It is such a privilege to be able to work with and help children. I am blessed each and every day when I see a child smile, or a worried parent that is thankful for helping their child. I want to be the best at what I do, and I truly love doing it. I don’t want to grow up, and at the kid’s place, I never have to!

Outside the Office
I spent my early years in Ft. Stockton, Texas. Later, my family moved to Midland, Texas where I attended junior high, high school, and Midland College. Later I attended the University of Texas in Austin, and then the University of Texas at San Antonio Dental School. My Pediatric Dental training was completed in Dallas, Texas at Baylor College of Dentistry. I owned a private practice in Midland, Texas for 25 years prior to moving to the Hill Country. I have taught an early interceptive orthodontic course through the Academy of Gp Orthodontics since 2013. In this year long hands-on course, dentists from all over the US and Canada meet every other month to learn interceptive strategies from lecture and direct patient care.
I currently live in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, with my beautiful wife Lacy, and three wonderful sons, Braxton, Avery, and Creighton. We also have a boxer named Smokey. We love Boerne, a smaller town with big Hill Country Charm. Our family is adjusting to hills, trees, and water, which is a huge change from West Texas!
When I’m not in the office, I love to read, and occasionally binge watch Netflix with my wife. With three sons, my family obviously loves the outdoors, especially camping, hunting, and fishing.
Super friendly staff. Our daughter is 11 months old and had her first cleaning. They were very informative and did their best to make all of us comfortable. Glad we picked them to care for our daughter’s teeth.
We love The Kid’s Place!! Dr. Wilkerson and staff were SO amazing with all my little ones and made it such a fun experience! They are the best, 10/10 would recommend!!
Thank you to the staff, Hygienist Lacey, and Dr. Wilkerson. My three year old needed a thorough dental assessment and she loved it. The Kids Place gave me great care, peace of mind, and reassurance in my daughters dental care. Thank you!
We loved our experience with Dr. Wilkerson, Lacy, and Cassandra. They were very patient, fun, and awesome with my kiddos! We are new to Boerne and very grateful to have found The Kid’s Place!
Scheduling was simple, efficient and straightforward. We were seen quickly after calling for an appointment. The office staff sent portal information via email as promised. The facility is immaculate and welcoming. My son was happy to be there from the moment we walked through the door. The staff was friendly, personable and organized. The doctor was compassionate, informative and thorough. Appointment was on schedule, so no unnecessary toddler squirminess! I was not rushed and all of my questions were answered.
I’m so glad we found Dr. Wilkerson. He and his staff have been great! It says a lot when your 4-year old goes in to get two caps and is excitedly asking if he can go back to the dentist tomorrow!
